Editing for travel writers

They say we all have a book inside us waiting to come out. If you’ve travelled you’ve probably already written it – even if it’s still in your head.

Bring your travels to life

It may be a collection of short stories, a travelogue, a travel series, or a jumble of notes and ideas looking for more order. You may want to self-publish or to submit to an agent or publishing house. Perhaps you’re a first-time writer, or you may be an established author. Wherever you are on this journey, I can help. I am an experienced traveller and editor who can help you bring your travel memoirs, stories, and tales to life.

How it works

Every writer benefits from a good editor to get the most out of their story on the page. I offer two services:

The overview or structural edit

This looks at the structure and pacing of your story. It works best if you’ve got a good draft but need some help to refine it or if you’re a bit stuck. Maybe you need some help with finding different ways to describe things. Or perhaps you could do with some guidance on developing some of your travel stories a little more.

The detailed edit

Focusing more on the detail of your book, this is where I look at the clarity, check for typos, tidy up grammar and make sure things are consistent. Your book is ready for this once you’re happy with the structure and flow.

It’s possible to combine the two, of course. And if you’re not sure what would work best right now, get in touch and we can figure it out together.

Why work with me?

When it comes to travel writing, working with an editor who has travelled widely and understands what it’s like to be on the road adds an extra flourish. I have been a traveller my whole life and a nomad for the past eight years. I understand what it’s like to move from one place to another. So I get the joy of discovering new places and culture and the frustrations that travel can bring.

I’m also an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading and a trained and experienced copyeditor. Find out more about my training and qualifications.

“Thank you so much to Christina for giving me the opportunity to turn this dream project into reality. Her work was clear, fast, and highly professional. Her travelling experience was very much appreciated as she was able to bring her knowledge to my manuscript. She was always available to answer my questions, and we stayed in constant contact by email throughout the entire process. I am very grateful for her work. She helped make my manuscript clearer while truly listening to my requests, especially when I wanted to keep certain stories. I highly recommend her services, and I will without a doubt continue working with her on future projects.”
